Parrot - Adoptions and Fostering REQUIREMENTS

Nana and Papa's Nest Inc. Foster/Adoption Process is long and tedious.  However, as a Guardian, remember that this will be nothing compared to the challenges you will endure daily living with a parrot.  Living with a parrot takes a lot of patience and dedication.  There will be challenging experiences, but with those challenges come the most rewarding moments between you and your parrot.  Nana & Papa's Nest, Inc. cannot guarantee the parrot's future health, behavior, and talking capability.  All of our parrots deserve to be loved.  Each parrot is exceptionally unique in its own manner.

Requirements:

1. Must be a US Citizen 
2. Applicants must be 18 years or older.  Applicants under the age of 18 years of age will require parental permission and signature. (Parents must agree to a background check)
3. Must be a Virginia resident

1. Live within 130 miles of Wakefield, VA 
2. Have not been convicted of animal, child, or domestic abuse, neglect, or cruelty
3. Agree to a home inspection (Usually done by FaceTime or Zoom)
4. Agree to a background check
5. Provide a valid government-issued photo identification card
6. Provide two references
7. Provide a copy of a mortgage statement, rental agreement, or utility bill for proof of address

Initial Visit:

1. We will contact you to schedule a home visit.  We recommend that all household members be present during the home visit.  We want to confirm that all family members agree and are onboard with bringing the parrot into the home.
2. All prospective guardians/adoptees must spend time with the parrot at the rescue.  A bond must be displayed between the adoptee and the parrot being adopted.
3. All parties involved in the adoption process must attend the first Meet-and-Greet appointment.
4. All other requirement information will be provided to you once you start the application process.

 PLEASE TAKE NOTE:

1. We will NOT approve applicants who smoke cigarettes, cigars, tobacco, vape, or have been convicted, or using illegal substances inside the home.
2. We will NOT approve applicants convicted of animal cruelty, neglect, or abandonment.
3. We will NOT approve any applicants convicted or subject to child cruelty, neglect, or abandonment. 
4. We will NOT approve any applicants convicted of domestic assault or harm to others for the last ten years.
